Hi friends!!!
Stranger Things is my absolute favorite show of all time, and like many of you, I am also devastated that it's over.
This is a way for me to cope with the fact that it's over, LOL.
I don't know about y'all, but something died in me after that finale (my childhood RIP).
That's how attached I have become to this beautiful, bewitching show.
I started watching Stranger Things when I was a senior in high school at the ripe age of 17. Ahh, young and sweet, only 17. Flash forward to the season 5 release, and I am about to be 27.
Crazy how fast time flies when you're growing up.
Stranger Things has always felt like such a special series to me because I began watching it at what felt like the end of my childhood. I have now finished the series as a full-blown adult. It feels weirdly nostalgic to watch the show.
Seeing Dustin, Mike, Will, Eleven, Lucas, and Max always be together in the Wheelers' basement reminded me of a time when life wasn't so complicated.
It reminds me of the days when you were a kid and could hang out with your friends all day. It felt like time with your friends lasted forever, and they would never end. It was a given that you would spend the weekend with your friends and see them frequently.
Now things are different. We have to schedule a hangout and pencil it among the million other things we have to do now that we are adults.
Hangouts don't last all day anymore because we have work the next day or another appointment to get to.
SIGH
That's why growing up kinda sucks, but then again, another year around the sun is something to celebrate.
Just as this show has grown, I have grown alongside it.
It reminds me that it's okay to be different than others and you will still be loved for who you are regardless. I loved how this show highlighted kids who were the nerds at school and showcased the beautiful love they have for one another.
They never did it alone, but always together.
Stranger Things gave us these characters who embody true friendship and loyalty.
It reminds me to slow down and enjoy the moments you have with your loved ones. Never take for granted the time you have with those people. Things change, and people move away. Nothing ever stays the same.
This show taught me that endings can be jarring. They can be emotionally devastating, but still bittersweet in a beautiful way.
It taught me that some of the most bewitching loves don't always last as long as they should, but that doesn't make the love any less magnificent.
It also taught me it's okay to be weird and embrace who you are. The right people will find you and love you passionately.
Stranger Things reminded me that even when it looks like evil is going to win, the good will prevail.
We just have to believe (crying IFYKY).
The show also showed me that you can find friends in the most unlikely places and to have an open mind when it comes to meeting new people.
It also taught me to NEVER TRUST THE GOVERNMENT 100%!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Be the rebel, F*ck the feds!!!!!
Over the years, my bond with Stranger Things has grown to be quite an intertwined love. I have deep care for these characters and the story that is being told. It has truly changed me for the better. It has shown me new perspectives, reminded me of what's really important, and made an everlasting impact on my heart and who I am.
All good things must come to an end.
I will always enjoy a nostalgic rewatch. At least once a year, of course. I will continue to look forward to those each year. I think I will be making some art or a cute craft to memorialize what this show means to me.
I look forward to seeing what the Duffer Brothers do next and what other spin-offs could come from this wonderful piece of TV cinema.
Oh, Stranger Things, how I absolutely love and adore you.
Thanks for reading, beautiful human!
Always be unapologetically you and love people in big ways.
Be kind.
Be sassy.
Be you!!!!
Love,
Unapologetically Rachael
P.S I believe <3
